About Jen Lehman

Hi, I'm Jen Lehman, and I'd love to repair your C flute, alto flute, or bass flute.

I got my start like many of you, playing in elementary school in the school band. I graduated from the College of St. Rose. I was a music education major, studying flute under Yvonne Chavez Hansbrough.

After graduation, I applied for a job working at Powell Flutes as a flute finisher. Working at Powell Flutes was a dream for a flute player. I had no professional repair experience before working at Powell.

Jen made my alto and bass play like they were brand new again. Flute ensemble is more enjoyable now!

In the finishing department, I learned all the skills I need to start my own business.  Finishers remove small dents and polish any scratches out of the flute. I also assembled the parts of the flute, including attaching keys, installing the adjustments, and padding the flute to make it play to the Powell standard.

After I left Powell, I took an overhaul class with Jonathan Landell, a flute maker with nearly 50 years of experience.  He taught me what is expected during a flute overhaul.  (It’s making a flute but in reverse!)

Today I run JM Lehman Flute Repair, where I repair C flutes, alto flutes, and bass flutes. I also teach flute and play with several groups around the area.
